Flat Tail Brewery garnered third place in people’s choice for its Foreverinium Belgian IIPA during its first showing at the Oregon Garden Brewfest in Silverton on April 30.
About 4,000 attendees sampled beers from more than 41 breweries from Oregon, Washington, California and even Utah and found Foreverinium to their liking.
“I think folks liked Foreverenium because it’s a good crisp IPA,” said Trina Riemersma, brewfest coordinator. “Also, Flat Tail is an up-and-coming brewery so I think a lot of people sampled them.”
Foreverinium is an Imperial IPA brewed with a Belgian yeast strain and spiced with lemongrass, orange peel, lemon peel, and just a hint of Buddha’s Hand and Chinese gooseberries. Hopped with more than 2.5 pounds per barrel of Cascade, Amarillo, Chinook and Zeus.
“Brewed in honor of our brewing compatriots of the East Coast, this may not be a new style, but it sure does taste good,” said Flat Tail brewer Dave Marliave.
Calapooia Brewing in Albany came in second place with its Chili Beer, preceded by Seven Brides in Silverton.
This is Flat Tail’s second award in two microbrew fests. In February, the brewery received first place with Licentious Goat, a double India Pale Ale brewed with damiana and horny goat weed. The wins are remarkable as the brewery is new and small by industry standards.
Flat Tail Brewing is located at the corner of Southwest First Street and Madison Avenue in Corvallis. Owners Iain and Tonya Duncan, Laura Bryngelson and Mark Martin opened the restaurant portion of the business in February 2010, and began brewing operations in July 2010.
